Douglas Hamilton, Chair of the Poverty and Inequality Commission

Over the past few months I’ve been working along with my fellow Commissioners to get the work of the Poverty and Inequality Commission underway. I’m delighted that we now have a website where we’ll share our work, ask people to get involved, and also invite other organisations and individuals to blog about their experiences and the work they are doing to tackle poverty and inequality.

The first request that we received from the Scottish Government was to provide advice on their Child Poverty Delivery Plan. The Commission has been working on this over the last three months and we will publish that advice on our website in the next few days.

Our next focus will be on developing our work plan for the next eighteen months. We are starting to develop our work using an initial framework looking at wealth, household income and household expenditure. We will consult widely on the work plan over the coming months. We are keen to hear whether you think the issues the Commission is identifying are the most important issues and where you think the Commission can have most impact.
